Painting your primed Ceiling Medallion

Please enjoy this tutorial on How to Paint a Primed Ceiling Medallions. So grab your paint brush, latex paint and get your favorite ceiling medallion, and  create your home décor masterpiece!! These instructions are for products ordered in primed white finish. DIY Sweet Dreams Ceiling Medallion must be primed first, then follow these instructions.These instructions are how we paint our ceiling medallions at Marie Ricci. Feel free to use your own painting technique.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Primed Ceiling Medallion
  • Latex Paint ( satin finish, we use white for the base )
  • Latex Paint ( your color of choice over white )
  • 2 1/2″ nylon brush ( Lowes or Home Depot )
  • Damp rag or paper towels
  • 1/4″ nylon flat brush ( American Painter #3 available at Michaels)

Step 1:

Tack or wipe your primed ceiling medallion. Paint the entire medallion using your white latex satin paint as a base color. Let dry and coat again.

Step 2:

Tack or wipe medallion before painting. Using your latex paint, in the color of choice, we used pink in a satin finish. To remove paint. Using a 2 1/2″ nylon brush, apply a good amount of paint to cover the entire ceiling medallion. Move quickly, do not allow the paint to dry.

Step 3:

While paint is wet, wrap the damp paper towel around your hand. Using the tips of your fingers, lightly remove the paint around the inner and outer border and all the high points, exposing the white below. Repeat this process, continually moving to a clean section on the damp rag or paper towel. This will give your ceiling medallion the vintage or shabby chic look.

Step 4:

Once paint has dried, use a 1/4″ nylon brush and paint the background of the ceiling medallion. Repeat this process if necessary to achieve good coverage. Touch up white where needed for a less shabby chic look. Allow to dry and your ready for installation.

HOW TO INSTALL

There is no need to permenently attach your medallion to the celilng. The canopy ofthe chandeller or ceiling fan will keep the medallion in place. If permanent installation is desired, a light caulk line can be applied betweenthe installed medallion and the ceiling. Wipe off any excesss caulk with a damp rag
